We thank and praise God for bringing the church from a mighty long way in just 8 years’ time. He Has stabilized the churches infrastructure by ordaining its first Deacon, creating the women’s ministry and youth development, Wednesday Night Bible Study for discipleship purposes, established an online presence through mediums like Zoom, Facebook, and our own Website, the requisition of a church van, summer VBS and Book bag Drive, Peace and Unity Block Party, expanded the vision of creating a recreational center for students to come and learn GED ESL, Science, Technology, Music, and Economics. In eight years Pristine Spring Hill Baptist Church has taught Seminary Instruction to a cohort of 8 female prisoners at Hernando Correctional Institution. Pristine Spring Hill Baptist Church though our Huddle Touch Ministry ministered to 50 boys on both the football and basketball team of Central HS; acquisitioning for team sneakers for the boys to boost morale. Since its inception Pristine Spring Hill Baptist Church has baptized approximately 70 individual souls for the sake of Jesus Christ. What better way than to provide them with a support system and advocate on their behalf.” (said Julia on the topic of recidivism). She initially opened Take Charge Wellness Center in 2014 as a successful for-profit business, while also advocating for voting rights and criminal justice reform on the side. In 2018, she, along with the US States Attorney’s office (Joseph Smith) and Congressman Gus Bilirakis’ Office (Rob Fleege) founded the Pasco County Reentry Alliance (PCRA). In this alliance (which she spearheads), members in multi-county communities such as but not limited to Pasco, Pinellas, Hillsborough and Manatee, come together and present all things reentry. She also works on a state and federal level leveraging her experience with the Pinellas Empowerment Reentry Coalition (PERC), Hillsborough ReEntry Center (HREC), Hillsborough Empowerment Re-Entry Network (HERN) where she serves on the board of directors.
Julia was educated in Roanoke, VA and continued her education at Shaw University, a historically black college in Raleigh, NC. She is the President of the NAACP of Pasco County, Florida, a member of the National Association of Blacks in Criminal Justice (NABJ), Florida’s Fines and Fees Justice Center (FFJC), The International Association of Peer Supporters (INAPS), National Alliance of Mental Illness (NAMI), Trust (hope for the hurting), the, and is a licensed minister of the Gospel. One of her latest projects is to start a pilot program for Pasco County students who are identified by Pasco County Sheriff’s office ‘Intelligence Led Policing’ (ILP). This program (Positive Spin) is set to begin in the near future. “I believe that through educating, changing your environment and empowering individuals, we may not eliminate recidivism, but we will do our part to reduce it…thus making our community safer. This is my ultimate goal for myself, my family and loved ones. After all, the bible clearly states “Beloved I would above all things that we prosper and be in good health even as your soul prospers.” (3John 1:2)

Chae M. Jaynes is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Criminology at the University of South Florida. She received her BA in Economics (2011) and MS in Criminal Justice (2013) from Michigan State University, and her PhD in Criminology and Criminal Justice from the University of Maryland, College Park (2018). Her research focuses on decision-making of various criminal justice system-related actors from a rational choice perspective. For instance, she seeks to understand the role of employment and labor market perceptions in the decision to offend. She also studies the factors which influence a hiring manager's decision to employ someone with a criminal record. Finally, she considers the decision to accept a guilty plea among those who have been charged with a crime. Through her research, Dr. Jaynes seeks to provide meaningful policy implications to practitioners and community stakeholders. To this end, she works collaboratively with students, colleagues, and community partners to improve the well-being of those who come into contact with the criminal justice system and society more broadly.
Dr. KareLin S. Ellis, Director has been serving incarcerated and recently released citizens for over 25 years. Her passion began while she was 15 years old as a ward of New York State. After entering an unforgiving foster system she became enrolled in the Scared Straight program where she pen paled with an inmate named Treag. Correspondence with Treag sparked an interest in KareLin that has since flourished. It started as a question: How do good people end up in prison? Treag had done so much with his life while incarcerated including mentoring troubled youth, becoming a trusted legal advocate within the prison and yet he was stuck in a facility. KareLin had to learn more. 34 years later she has spent 25 years doing volunteer work with multiple organizations, advocating for inmate rights, and working in roles that allowed her to be a voice for both incarcerated and returning citizens. KareLin has visited 26 facilities across New York State Advocating for incarcerated Citizens through joint problem solving. KareLin has an innate ability to work collaboratively with parties from all sides in order to meet the needs of both a client and the criminal justice system.
Recently, KareLin completed her Doctorate in Criminal Justice with a strong focus on Re-entry, pathways to incarceration, and barriers faced by returning citizens. Her dissertation is titled “Re-entry, Re-imagined: Paving a Pathway for Success.” This dissertation outlines areas of desperate need, and recommends low to no cost methods of meeting those needs. It is her greatest desire to continue being an integral part of this change.
